Since its inception in 1991, Water For People has developed a proven model of community involvement, local participation and training to implement culturally-sensitive and technically-sustainable solutions to the water/sanitation needs in communities around the world.
We believe in people
We believe in the dignity of all people and that access to safe drinking water and effective sanitation are basic human rights.
We keep it local
We believe that drinking water, sanitation and hygiene problems are most effectively solved using local resources. Local communities must be the driving force in all of our programs to make sure solutions are sustainable.
We keep good company
We believe in the power of partnerships. We search out trusted partners who share our vision and work together to build long-term relationships based on trust.
We keep our promises
We believe we owe it to the communities we serve, our volunteers, staff and donors to keep our promises and manage our resources effectively and efficiently.
In addition to in-country personnel who are intimately involved in the implementation of the projects, Water For People also utilizes independent teams of self-nominated volunteers to periodically measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the projects and their long-term sustainability. Recent evaluation trips report that over 97% of the projects implemented remain successful and sustainable.
For six consecutive years, the independent rating agency Charity Navigator has rated Water For People with its highest rating of 4 stars. Visit Water For People's website at www.waterforpeople.org to learn more about the implementation model, programs and initiatives.
